Various tick-borne illnesses prevalent in Paraguay's tropical environment impact livestock; yet, the specific status of EP in this country remains undetermined. Because the presence of tick vectors that can carry T. equi and B. caballi is common in Paraguay, we theorized that horses in Paraguay would exhibit infection by these parasite varieties. Our hypothesis was tested by preparing blood DNA samples from 545 apparently healthy horses across 16 departments of Paraguay, before analyzing them using specific PCR assays designed to detect T. equi and B. caballi. PCR testing demonstrated that 178 horses (327%) were positive for T. equi, and 8 horses (15%) were positive for B. caballi. From the pool of infected horses, two exhibited infection with both parasite species, representing 0.04% of the total. The positive rates of T. equi infection remained uniform across horse breeds, sexes, and age cohorts, as our analyses confirmed. There was no variation in haematological parameters between the control group of non-infected animals and the group with single infections. Differently, the two horses double-infected with T. equi and B. caballi displayed haemoglobin and haematocrit levels lower than the normal range. The current research definitively demonstrated *T. equi* and *B. caballi* infection in Paraguayan horses, highlighting a greater prevalence of the former. The research strongly suggests the need to incorporate EP into the differential diagnoses when diagnosing anemic horses seen at veterinary clinics in Paraguay.Our research focused on contrasting the disease features of primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS) in African-origin and Caucasian-origin patient populations.Within a French national and European referral center for pSS, we carried out a retrospective, case-control study design. Two Caucasian patients with similar follow-up durations were selected for each patient diagnosed with pSS of AA in the matching process. We explored the interplay between clinical and biological parameters and the cumulative EULAR Sjögren's Syndrome Disease Activity Index (cumESSDAI 5), which is derived from the highest scores achieved by each clinESSDAI domain over the course of the follow-up.Seventy-four AA patients were identified, matched with 148 Caucasians. The median age at diagnosis of primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) was significantly lower in patients belonging to the AA group (43 years, IQR 33-51) compared to those not in the AA group (56 years, IQR 448-592), with a p-value less than 0.0001. AA patients demonstrated significantly higher median gammaglobulin levels (185 g/L, IQR 15-228) compared to controls (134 g/L, 99-169), (p < 0.0001), along with greater positivity for anti-SSA (88% vs 72%, p=0.0007) and anti-RNP antibodies (11% vs 27%, p=0.0023). Over a median follow-up period of six years (interquartile range two to eleven years), AA patients demonstrated a greater frequency of systemic complications such as arthritis, myositis, interstitial lung disease, lymphadenopathy, and central nervous system involvement. Patients in the AA group had a noticeably higher median cumESSDAI score (75, interquartile range 32-160) than the control group (40, interquartile range 20-90), this difference being statistically significant (p=0.0002). Multivariate analyses highlighted the association of disease activity with factors, including sub-Saharan African ancestry (OR=265, 95% CI=106-694), rheumatoid factor (OR=250, 95% CI=128-496), and anti-RNP positivity (OR=111, 95% CI=188-212).Patients undergoing AA treatment demonstrate elevated disease activity, a key indicator of increased B-cell activation.
