To determine the age-related differences in the association between level of acculturation and perceptions about change in health status after migration in mid- to late-life immigrants. Cross-sectional study. Nationally representative cohort of legal U.S. immigrants. Legal immigrants ≥50 years of age. The outcome was perceived change in health status, determined by the survey question, "compared with your health right before you most recently came to the United States to live, would you say that your health is better now, about the same or worse?" The main predictor included age group (50-64, 65-74, and ≥75 years) and secondary variable of interest was level of acculturation. Analyses were adjusted for demographic characteristics, medical, and functional comorbidities. Immigrants age ≥75 years were more likely to report worse health after migration [RRR 1.93, 95% CI (1.17, 3.17), p < 0.01] compared with immigrants of 50-64 years, but this difference was not statistically significant in the adju impact health. With increasing demand for total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA), a higher percentage of patients are identified with comorbidities that might increase the risk of complications. We aimed to elucidate the preoperative characteristics of patients with a fatal outcome or admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) within 90days after THA or TKA. We arbitrarily hypothesized that more than 50% of those patients would be frail. This is a register based, explorative study including patients undergoing elective, unilateral, primary THA or TKA in the Capital Region of Denmark from 2010 to 2017, and who subsequently died or were admitted to the ICU within 90days. The modified Frailty Index (mFI) was calculated from the medical records, and a score of ≥0.36 defined frailty. A total of 33,758 patients underwent THA or TKA, and 284 patients (0.8%) died or were admitted to the ICU within 90days. Fifty-seven patients (20%) were frail (95% CI 16.2-25.7%). The most common comorbidities were hypertension (63%) and pulmonary diseases (32%), and 56% used walking aids. Two or more comorbidities were present in 65% of patients, and 14% had no comorbidities at all. Only 20% of patients with a fatal outcome or ICU admission after elective THA or TKA could be categorized as frail based on the mFI. The Masoka-Koga and tumor node metastases staging systems for thymoma are based on structures involved, but the prognostic role of the number of infiltrated/involved structures is still debated. We analyzed the prognostic role of involved structures and their combinations in locally advanced thymomas patients. Data on 174 surgically treated locally advanced thymoma patients from 1/01/1990 to 31/12/2015 were reviewed. Clinical and pathological characteristic, involved structures, number of involved structures and different combinations were correlated to cancer specific survival (CSS) using Kaplan-Meier product-limit method. Five and 10-year CSS was 92% and 87%. Masaoka Stage 3 (p < 0.001), absence of pericardial involvement (p = 0.001), number of involved structures (p = 0.018), R0 (p < 0.001) and adjuvant radiotherapy (p = 0.008) were favorable prognostic CSS factors. A significant better prognosis was present in ≤2 involved structures vs >2 involved structures (5- and 10-year CSS 95% and 93% vs. 80% and 51%). Foot and ankle soft tissue sarcomas (STS) are challenging for reconstruction due to limited surrounding soft tissue and weight-bearing requirements. Currently, there is a paucity of data examining the outcome of flap reconstruction following resection of a foot and ankle sarcoma. We reviewed 44 (31 female, 13 male) patients with STS arising from the ankle or foot which required coverage in the form of a free (n = 21), pedicled (n = 13), or rotational perforator flap (n = 10). The mean tumor size was 6 ± 5 cm, with 39 (89%) patients receiving radiotherapy. The mean follow-up was 10 ± 7 years. There were no cases of amputation due to flap failure, with a 10-year limb salvage rate of 84%. Complications occurred in 19 (43%) patients, most commonly wound infections.
